The Judicial Court of Comarca Madeira sent this Wednesday to the Constitutional Court (TC) two appeals contesting the admission of Chega’s candidacy to the regional legislative elections on September 24, submitted by ADN and Gregorio Teixeira.

Madeira District Presiding Judge Filipe Camara said the appeals followed an order issued on Monday that dismissed complaints filed by the National Democratic Alternative Party (ADN) and Chega militant Gregorio Teixeira and upheld the allegation. .

Both plaintiffs argue that Chega’s candidacy, led by Miguel Castro, was not accepted, given the decision of the Constitutional Court No. 520/2023, which invalidated the V National Congress of this party, at which the direction approved by it was chosen. list of candidates for elections to the Regional Legislative Assembly of Madeira.

The Constitutional Court now has 48 hours to decide on appeals.

In the elections on September 24, the Madeiran court approved 13 candidates, corresponding to two coalitions and 11 other parties, but the final lists will not be published until September 4.

As a result of the distribution of 13 political forces on the ballot, the Portuguese Labor Party (PTP) ranked first, followed by Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP), Block de Esquerda (BE), Socialist Party (PS), Chega (CH), React Include Integrate (RIR), Party of the Earth (MPT), National Democratic Alternative (ADN), Somoz Madeira (PSD/CDS-PP coalition), People-Animals-Nature (PAN), Livre (L), CDU – – Unitary Democratic Coalition ( PCP/PEV) and the Liberal Initiative (IL).

The previous regional elections were held on September 22, 2019.

In this election, in one district, 16 parties and a coalition competed for 47 seats in the Parliament of Madeira: PSD, PS, CDS-PP, JPP, BE, Chega, IL, PAN, PDR, PTP, PNR, Aliança, Partido da Terra – MPT, PCTP/MRPP, PURP, RIR and CDU (PCP/PEV).

The PSD then lost for the first time the absolute majority in the Madeira Regional Legislative Assembly, which it had held since 1976, electing 21 deputies and forming a coalition government with the SDS-NP (three deputies).

The PS elected 19 deputies, three from the AKP and one from the PKP.
