The Serra da Estrela is painted white in mid-summer.

Heavy rain and hail are already being felt in a number of areas of the country. This Saturday, Civil Protection appealed to the population to take preventive measures due to weather changes, from the interior of the country to the coast, with a forecast of precipitation, sometimes heavy, accompanied by hail, thunder and gusts of wind.

Civil Protection has changed the weather warning from yellow to orange until 18:00 in the districts of Guarda, Bragança and Castelo Branco due to the forecast for heavy rainfall and frequent and concentrated thunderstorms.

Thus, according to the National Office for Emergency Situations and Civil Protection (ANPC) for the districts of Guarda, Braganza and Castelo Branco, “sometimes heavy precipitation is expected, and sometimes hail, accompanied by strong gusts of wind.” Frequent and concentrated thunderstorms are also expected.

For now, the ANPC has left the remaining areas on the mainland with a yellow warning until Sunday noon.

Rain and hail, accompanied by strong gusts of wind, hit the Fundan area. The city, which is part of one of the districts in which an orange weather warning is in effect, has not yet recorded casualties and property damage.

Serra da Estrela

In the Serra da Estrela, heavy rainfall and hail remain the biggest problem for the population. There are no reports of injuries or property damage, according to Civil Protection. Roads have not yet been cut.

Valpazos

In Valpazos, heavy rain and thunderstorms filled the streets with hail. There have been no reports of injuries or flooded homes so far, according to Alto Tamega and Barroso Civil Protection.

Evora

The Évora area is one of the most affected by the deteriorating weather conditions. According to the Regional Relief Operations Center (CDOS) of Évora, in the municipalities of Évora and Estremoz, there were three incidents due to heavy rainfall and four incidents due to falling trees, with a focus on falling trees, in Noss. Señora de Machede, who was hit by a car. There are no reports of injuries yet.

Mirandela

The city of Mirandela is one of the most affected by bad weather. Floods have occurred due to the severe thunderstorm felt in the region, according to the Civil Protection of Braganca. In the pictures, you can see the effect of heavy rain in the city, roads and rural areas are covered with hail.

The ANPC also calls for “special caution” when moving and staying near forested areas, paying attention to the possibility of falling branches and trees due to high winds.

Circulation along coastlines and coastal areas “historically more vulnerable to overflow” should also be taken into account, avoiding circulation and permanent residence in these areas.

The authorities also urge not to engage in activities related to the sea, namely sport fishing, water sports and walks on the sea, as well as to avoid parking vehicles very close to the embankment.

Civil Protection is also calling for a shift to safe driving at reduced speeds and avoiding crossing flooded areas to prevent people or vehicles from being drawn into pavement holes or open sewers.
