British intelligence agencies warned this Monday about the hacking of mobile phones used by the Ukrainian army participating in a counter-offensive against the invasion of Russia.
According to the British intelligence services, in a statement from the Ministry of Defense, Russia is trying to obtain “confidential military information” from the Armed Forces of Ukraine by computer attacks on mobile phones used by the Ukrainian military.
The UK report cites the findings of the United Kingdom’s National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) as well as “other international partners” who on Thursday reported a “malware” (computer attack) campaign on mobile devices. used by the Ukrainian army.”
According to the same sources, the program used in the alleged Russian cyberattack was identified as “Infamous Chisel”, which was already being used by the “hacker” group Sandworm.
Earlier, the British computer security authority NCSC had already assigned links with the Sandworm group to the Special Technology Center of the Central Information Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Army.
“Infamous Chisel” is a program that allows constant access to filtering and extracting data from Android devices.
The same program is allegedly being used “against the computer applications of the Ukrainian army,” according to the same statement, published this Monday by the UK Department of Defense through the social network X.
“These actions demonstrate Russia’s continued use of cyber capabilities to support a military invasion of Ukraine,” the same British document says.
