At least five people died in Turkey and Bulgaria, and three others are still missing due to floods that affected several sections of Turkish territory in the area close to the Bulgarian border.
In Kirklareli, in northwestern Turkey, one of the bodies was found this Wednesday after two bodies were found in the same place on Monday.
The three victims were part of a group of twelve who were trapped in a hotel and were eventually swept away by the current of a river that overflowed its banks due to flooding.
Six people were rescued, three more were missing.
The flood washed away several cabins in the Turkish hotel complex.
The six survivors were rescued with the help of boats and heavy civil engineering equipment on site, Turkish television NTV reported.
The Sisli Valley is located ten kilometers south of the Bulgarian border and less than 20 kilometers south of the municipality of Tsavero, Bulgaria, where two people died this Wednesday after being swept away by a current caused by rainwater.
Bulgarian authorities also continue to search for missing people.
In Istanbul, heavy rains flooded a hospital, the metro network and thousands of homes.
Istanbul Governor Davut Gul said that “as much rain has fallen in the past few hours as it usually does in two to three months.”
