More than 20,000 students have applied for the second round of the national competition for access to higher education, which ended Tuesday with just 10,000 open positions.
According to data updated daily on the website of the General Directorate of Higher Education, 20,574 students applied, which is close to the number registered in the second round of the competition last year.
After placing 49,438 students in the first phase, universities and polytechnics now have 9,952 vacancies, most of which are remaining vacancies (5,212), and another 4,740 are vacancies vacated by students who, despite being enrolled, did not arrive.
Most of the available places are in polytechnics (about 6,600 places), while universities have provided about 3,300 places.
Most courses with higher average entry rates re-open at this 2nd stage, but in many cases only one or two spots remain.
The results will be known on September 17, while the third stage has not yet been announced, which will end at the end of the month.
