President Chegi announced this Friday that he will write to the PS parliamentary group asking that forced tenancies, new rules on local housing and the emergency sector contribution be excluded from the More Housing package.
At a press conference, Andre Ventura explained that when the diploma is confirmed on September 21, parties will only be able to submit changes to the government diploma, and not their own initiatives.
For this reason, despite disagreeing with “the entire program,” Ventura announced that he would write to the PS asking that only those measures that he considered the most serious be lifted, “since this is the last opportunity” to change the diploma.
The PS has already expressed its intention to approve the housing decree, which was vetoed by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on August 21, provided that an absolute majority of the current deputies vote (116 parliamentarians) and then the President of the Republic publishes the diploma within eight days of its receipt .
“This was already an important signal that the PS sent to the country about the humility to admit a mistake if it accepted that compulsory tenancy, new local accommodation rules and extraordinary contribution to the sector were removed from this diploma,” he appealed.
Ventura said that “many socialists and the President of the Republic” have already recognized that these measures will either have only a minor effect (in the case of forced rentals) or will destroy the local accommodation sector.
“This is not a request from Chega, SDP or IL, this is a request from the country, those who work in these areas and live in local accommodation facilities, and many owners,” he said, leaving this appeal directly to management. Prime Minister.
“I urge António Costa to be able to make at least these last-minute decisions,” he asked.
