Superintendent Pedro Neto Gouveia has replaced Chief Superintendent Paulo Peneda as commander of the PSP Porto Metropolitan Command, the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI) announced on Friday.
“The Minister of the Interior, José Luis Carneiro, has accepted the proposal to appoint Superintendent Pedro Gouveia as Commander of the Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) of Porto,” reads a press release sent to Lusa.
According to the MAI, the proposal was presented by the newly appointed PSP national director, Chief Superintendent José Barros Moura, and will now follow normal procedures.
Paula Peneda was appointed to the new National Police Directorate, MAI recalls, becoming the first woman to hold this position.
Pedro Manuel Neto Gouveia, 57, headed the operations department of the PSP National Directorate and is currently director of the PSP Private Security Department, a position he has held since 2015, the statement emphasized.
Superintendent of the PSP since 2014, he received a degree in Police Science from the Police Superior School, currently the Instituto Superior de Ciências Policiais e Segurança Interna.
The new PSP/Porto commander also has a national defense course (2020-2021), the document said.
