Katarina Martins officially steps down from her post and is replaced by Isabel Pires.

The former coordinator of the Bloco de Esquerda, Catarina Martins, formalized this Monday her application to resign from her parliamentary mandate as of September 14, and will be replaced by Isabel Pires.

In a letter addressed to the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva, to which Lusa had access, the deputy elected by the Porto district demands “for personal reasons to resign from office as of September 14, 2023.” inclusive”.

According to BE, Catarina Martins will be replaced by the blocker Isabel Pires, who was a deputy in the previous legislative body and in the current one replaced José Soeira, a parliamentarian who has meanwhile returned to the Assembly of the Republic.

Katarina Martins already stated in an interview with Lusa on May 23 that she will cease to be a deputy at the end of the legislative session.

This statement was made on the eve of the BE congress, at which the participant in the blockade left the leadership of the party, which in the meantime was occupied by Mariana Mortagua.

In an interview with Lusa, Katarina Martins noted that “there is little point” in continuing to work in parliament “without being already a coordinator.”

After almost 14 years of work as a deputy, the leader of the bloc said that, despite leaving the BU parliamentary group, she will remain in the leadership of the party.

Katarina Martins was elected as an MP for the first time in the 2009 legislative elections, then as an independent member on the BE lists, and was re-elected in the next legislative elections as a member.

The second legislative session of the current legislature will begin on September 15.
