Today more than 2,500 teachers are employed

More than 2,500 teachers have been placed in the third recruiting pool, the Education Minister announced this Friday, ensuring that “the machine for replacing and recruiting teachers is working.”

João Costa spoke to reporters at the end of the opening ceremony of the High Performance Support Unit at Escola Secundária Dr. José Afonso in the municipality of Seixal, Setubal district.

“The machine is working, we are meeting the needs, we are monitoring and supporting the schools, the school management is very interested and we will continue to work,” he said.

The minister added that hundreds of placements have been made this week and last, and teachers have been placed in more than 39,000 schedules since August 23.

“There are always problems and we are here to solve them, but let’s give credit to the great public school that Portugal has,” he said.

The 2023-2024 school year began this week with difficulties in recruiting teachers, casting a shadow over the reopening of schools.

On the eve of the return to school, after 2,924 places were filled in the recruitment pool concluded last Friday, schools were looking for teachers to fill around 1,300 places that were still empty, mainly in the Algarve, Lisbon and Valais regions. Tacho.

On Monday, João Costa updated those figures to indicate that a further 300 places had been filled during that time.

In the third recruitment pool, which ended today, 3,445 schedules were offered to teachers, of which 2,528 were filled (73.38 percent of the total), of which 1,402 were complete schedules and 1,126 were incomplete.

According to the Ministry of Education sent to the Lusa agency, 917 schedules remained unfilled (26.62% of the total), of which 230 were complete and 687 were incomplete.

Unfilled schedules are now used for school recruitment.
