The President of Chegi, Andre Ventura, considered this Monday unacceptable for the President of the Government of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque, to turn the election campaign for the regional elections on Sunday into an “act of inauguration” of his leader.
“I hope that the National Electoral Commission [CNE] be exemplary in the application of measures in this matter, otherwise we will have to live like this for the rest of the campaign. And I think this is very negative,” said Andre Ventura, speaking to reporters at the initiative, which took place in the municipality of Ribeira Brava.
The Chegi leader emphasized that during this election campaign there was a “gross and persistent violation of the duties of neutrality of those performing public functions, with the commissioning of works and structures belonging to the holder of the position, but not to the candidate.”
“It is unacceptable. This is taxpayers’ money […] Therefore, it is unacceptable for the chairman of the regional government to use this as a form of election campaign,” he emphasized.
However, CNE today warned Miguel Albuquerque to “refrain in the future and until the end of the electoral process from making statements, taking positions or taking actions that directly or indirectly favor or harm one candidate to the detriment or advantage.” others or who in any way question the fulfillment of the duties of neutrality and impartiality” to which he is obliged under the Electoral Law of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (LEALRAM).
Chega’s delegation, which included, in addition to the party leader and head of the regional list Miguel Castro, several deputies of the Assembly of the Republic, visited the municipal market, shops, restaurants and distributed party leaflets in the city center. municipality.
Upon arrival, Andre Ventura spoke with a group of elderly people playing cards, the deck of which, oddly enough, belonged to the Socialist Party.
“Next time I come, I’ll bring a deck of Chegi cards. Then we’ll burn this one,” Ventura joked, then addressed the vote: “We’ll see if it changes, you’ve worked your whole life.” life to pay those who don’t want to work.”
In statements to journalists, Andre Ventura also expressed satisfaction with a poll published today by the magazine Jornal da Madeira, according to which Chega could elect three parliamentarians next Sunday.
The leader confirmed that Chega/Madeira will “fight to become the third political force” in the autonomous region.
Andre Ventura also considered that the election of the parliamentary group means that the party “will become a major player in the region,” noting that it already exists in the Legislative Assembly of the Azores and in the Assembly of the Republic.
Leader Chegi also reiterated his hope that the PSD/CDU-PP coalition will not win an absolute majority next Sunday and that Albuquerque will fulfill its promise to resign.
There are 13 candidates running for the Madeira legislature, who will compete for 47 seats in the regional parliament in one electoral district.
PTP, JPP, BE, PS, Chega, RIR, MPT, ADN, PSD/CDS-PP (Somos Madeira coalition), PAN, Livre, CDU (PCP/PEV) and IL are the political forces vying for the vote.
In the previous regional elections in 2019, the Social Democrats elected 21 deputies, losing for the first time the absolute majority they had held since 1976, and formed a coalition government with the SDS-NP (three deputies). The PS received 19 mandates, the AKP – three and the CDU – one.
