The Pastelheira district in Porto is almost free of drug dealers and users

It was once considered Porto’s drug supermarket. There are now virtually no drug dealers or users in the Pasteleira Nova area, thanks to various “clean-ups” carried out by the PSP, which have led to the arrests of criminal gangs. However, residents continue to complain about the presence of “outsiders” in the area, prompting fences to be installed yesterday in five narrow alleys between various central buildings in the area.

The areas that were now fenced off were poorly lit areas with poor visibility, creating a safety hazard for those living there. Between each block, to prevent people from moving along the alleys, Domus Social installed two barriers – one at the beginning and one at the end. The Porto municipal police participated in this operation.

This is one of several measures developed by the Porto City Council to ensure the safety of residents. After the end of human trafficking in Pastelheira, traffickers moved to the neighboring neighborhoods of Ramalde, Campinas and Francos, or to Serco and Lagarteiro in the eastern zone.
