Marcelo promotes specialist IT careers in public administration

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, unveiled a diploma establishing a career regime for Information Systems Specialist and Information Systems and Technology Specialist, as well as the position of Systems Consultant.

According to a message published today on the President’s website, Marcelo Rebelo de Souza unveiled “a diploma establishing a specialized career regime for Information Systems and Technology Specialist and Information Systems and Technology Specialist, as well as the position of Information Systems Consultant.”

On August 23, the Council of Ministers approved a decree-law that addresses IT careers in public administration, creating two dedicated careers and the position of information systems and technology consultant.

The approval of the diploma was announced by the Presidential Minister in charge of Public Administration, with Mariana Vieira da Silva mentioning the negotiation process with trade unions that allowed the “creation and development” of “a set of “solutions” to value this career in the public service.

The diploma involves the creation of two special professions: an information systems and technology specialist and an information systems and technology specialist, as well as the position of an information systems and technology consultant, which, as the minister said at the time, would strengthen the capacity of public administration in this area of information technology.

A review of IT careers and changes to the remuneration structure to make the career more attractive was part of an agreement signed about a year ago between the government and two public service trade unions (Federation of Public Administration Trade Unions – Fesap and the Trade Union Front led by the State Technical Staff Union – STE).
