On Tuesday, the President of the Republic was invited by the President of Moldova to visit the country, a trip that Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa wants to carry out “at the end of this month or at the beginning of November.”
During Maia Sandu’s visit to our country, the head of state assured that Portugal will support Moldova’s candidacy for membership in the European Union and promised that it will help in the first stage of the accession process.
It is expected that Moldova will be able to join as a member state by 2030, with the Moldovan leader emphasizing that the fight against corruption must be taken up by the Union.
Regarding whether he has advice for Moldova regarding joining the European Community, Marcelo said that “each case is individual”, but stressed that Portugal’s accession is important for democracy.
