PSD MEPs Paulo Rangel and José Manuel Fernandez this Wednesday submitted to the European Parliament (EP) a request to lift parliamentary immunity as part of a complaint about the reporting of the 2018 Festival of Europe.
This is a complaint about the invoices for the 2018 Festa da Europa event, which the Office of Political Accounts and Financing (ECFP) attributes to the PSD, but which, as two MEPs guarantee, was organized exclusively by group politicians from the European People’s Party. to which the SDP belongs.
In their statement, both MEPs emphasize that “as it is in the interests of the organizers to fully clarify the weakly substantiated and false issues raised by the Organization, they demand the speedy completion of the investigations and confirm their full willingness to cooperate with justice.”
The initiative, which falls within the scope of her political activities in the relevant constituency, was paid for “from the available resources of the European Parliament, in strict compliance with the strict rules of the European Parliament, and whose use has been duly authorized by the competent European authority and has already been verified by the European Parliament.” European Parliament,” they also emphasize.
The complaint was announced on 28 September, with the ECFP holding deputy and then deputy secretary general Hugo Carneiro responsible for alleged irregularities in reporting on the event, who denies any involvement of the PSD.
