A UNITAD investigator explained on Thursday at the Justice Campus in Lisbon that it was a photo in a Facebook group of Iraqi brothers Ammar and Yasser Amin, convicted of crimes of war and terrorism, that prompted the judicial police to contact the country’s courts for assistance in investigating the suspects.
“This is a photo of them [Ammar e Yasir] they appear with their older brother Fuad, location unknown. It was placed by residents of ISIS-occupied Mosul. Three were accused of belonging to Daesh,” the investigator explained. The official confirmed that Ammar and Yasser were indicted by the Mosul Terrorism Court, which annulled the case because the defendants face the death penalty if extradited to Iraq.
The expert also said that he identified “three victims and 10 witnesses of crimes committed by those accused of Daesh.” They all made statements about future memory in the Portuguese trial.
