The emergency department at Agueda Hospital is closed from Tuesday to Wednesday due to a shortage of doctors.

The basic emergency department at the Águeda hospital will be closed from 20:00 Tuesday until 8:00 Wednesday due to a shortage of doctors, the Baixo Vuga Hospital Center (CHBV) said on Monday.

“The Baixo Vouga Hospital Center, EPE, announces that, since it was not possible to complete the schedule for the appointment of health workers, the basic emergency service of the Conde de Susena Hospital in Agueda will close at 20:00 on October 17 and until 8:00 in the morning on October 18” , – says the statement of the Black and White News Agency.

According to the same statement, only patients will be accepted until 19:00 on Tuesday.

During the period when basic emergency care remains closed, “users should go to the nearest hospital departments,” indicates the hospital administration, which “calls for everyone’s understanding.”

In a statement, the administration of the CHBV, which brings together the hospitals of Águeda, Aveiro and Estarreja, regrets “the possible limitations that this situation may cause and which, despite all efforts, could not be overcome.”

“CODU/INEM was notified in a timely manner, as were nearby fire brigades and hospitals,” he adds.

The emergency clinic at Aveiro Hospital was also closed over the weekend due to doctors refusing to work overtime beyond the 150 hours required by law.

According to the president of the National Federation of Doctors (Fnam), about 2,500 doctors have already submitted a project of inaccessibility, and this situation is “affecting hospitals from the north to the south of the country.”
