Former Minister Mira Amaral this Monday classified the current Prime Minister and the PS as “Luso-communists” with no social democratic vision and called on the PSD to fight to prevent these socialists from perpetuating themselves in power.
Mira Amaral, who was Minister of Labour, Industry and Energy in the PSD government led by Cavaco Silva, was this Monday one of the guests at the PSD parliamentary days, which take place in the Assembly of the Republic until Tuesday.
“In my opinion, this prime minister and this PS are not social democrats (…) This prime minister and this PS are Luso communists,” he noted, complaining that the PSD, which “these gentlemen often criticized for being near Chega,” don’t insist on this criticism anymore.
The former minister explained that his concept would be a mixture of “Italian Eurocommunism” and “Bolivarian socialism of the Venezuelan type,” in which parties “come to power through elections, but try to stay in power through control of public administration, justice, the armed forces.” Forces or media.”
Mira Amaral even believed that current Prime Minister António Costa and former minister Pedro Nuno Santos, appointed as one of his potential successors, are “very close ideologically,” with only a few differences.
“The Prime Minister is much more pragmatic and understands the importance of European funds in the country. They both really like the PCP, Pedro Nuno Santos has the patience to put up with the Left Bloc, but the Prime Minister does not,” he said. ,
From this perspective, he believes, “the state and the public budget are central to the economy,” and any problem is solved with “another subsidy or more support,” and “companies just endure it.”
Mira Amaral noted that the government’s proposed national budget for next year is in line with this vision, presenting “very high government spending and very high taxes,” although she praised the expected reduction in the deficit and debt.
“This is a very smart budget that appeals to retirees, government workers and the middle class,” he said.
According to Mira Amaral, the second way to have a balanced budget, which “the SDP naturally should have, was to have the lowest government spending and the lowest tax burden.”
At the end of his speech, former minister Cavaco Silva left a diagnosis and a request with the PSD.
“We are not going to get out of this stagnation. Throw two or three more bazookas at us and we won’t solve the problem. Portugal’s problem is not financial, it is a problem of political will to make the structural changes that are needed. must be done,” he believed.
According to Mira Amaral, even if they are not from the SDP, people “see the SDP as the only credible and concrete alternative” and ask “what the SDP thinks” on various issues.
“My dear friends, you have a very big responsibility to try to avoid the Mexicanization of the regime and to try to reverse it,” he said, although he foresees that the Social Democrats “will face a very difficult life” once in government. with the state apparatus.
