Portugal went under water due to bad weather

Flooding, falling trees and cutting roads are a common scenario in all regions of the country after the passage of the Alinskaya depression, marked by rain and strong winds. As of early Thursday evening, the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Agency reported 3,470 incidents involving 8,662 operators. National commander Andre Fernandez said that “the weather is forecast to worsen again on Sunday and Monday.”

Heavy rain left a family of five homeless in Fontainhas (Porto). In Palmela, two people also had to leave their homes. Twelve children were rescued from a kindergarten in Oeiras, and six more people were rescued from partially submerged cars in Frielas, a town in the municipality of Loures, where one person was preemptively removed from his home. Dozens of houses were flooded from north to south. In Gondomar, Olinda Ramalho spoke about the damage to her home. “I have nothing, but I’m alive,” he said CM. The first floor of the house was destroyed after it was swept away by floods in Alto das Regadas, in Fanzeres. The height of the water in the kitchen reached two meters, the flood washed out several doors, and also flooded the garage of another house and a mini-market. A neighbor helped the resident and was injured when he hit a piece of furniture.

Bad weather led to road closures, restrictions on movement near the sea and, like the Secundária de Mem Martins (Sintra) or the Secundária José Loureiro Botas, in Vieira de Leiria (Marinha Grande), several schools had to be closed. Forecasters indicate worsening weather for this Friday. However, in the north and center there may be showers, heavy in places, sometimes with hail and accompanied by thunderstorms.

There is also an indication of a sharp drop in temperature in the cabin. In Guarda the maximum is 11 degrees. In Torre, in Serra da Estrela, 3 degrees.
