According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), this Thursday the Viana do Castelo area is under a red warning, the most severe, due to the forecast of persistent and sometimes heavy rains.
This red warning for Viana do Castelo started at 05:00 and will end at 09:00.
The areas of Braga and Vila Real will be under an orange warning for rain until 9am this Thursday, and Viseu, Guarda, Aveiro and Coimbra until 3pm.
Also due to rain, IPMA has issued a yellow warning until 15:00 this Thursday in the areas of Porto, Leiria and Castelo Branco.
The IPMA has also issued a yellow warning for the areas of Viseu, Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro and Beja until 12:00 this Thursday due to strong winds from the western quadrant with gusts of up to 75 kilometers per hour. .
The areas of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Leiria, Aveiro and Coimbra will be under an orange warning due to rough seas. Swells of 5 to 6 meters are expected from the northwest, reaching a maximum height of 10 meters from 06:00 Friday to 12:00 Saturday.
The areas of Faro, Lisbon and Beja are under a yellow warning for rough seas, with waves from the northwest of 4 to 5 meters from 06:00 Friday to 18:00 Saturday.
An orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation” and a yellow warning when there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
On Wednesday, the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) warned the population of the forecast for “heavy and prolonged” rains, strong winds and rough seas, especially in the northern and central regions.
ANEPC also warns, based on information from the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), that in the Agueda area an increase in the volume of water in the Ribeiradio reservoir and downstream of this dam is “expected”, and an increase may also occur in the Mondego Basin, near Coimbra. “if forecasts of heavy rainfall come true.
