Storm Celine, associated with a cold frontal surface and wreaking havoc in the north, is gaining strength in the south today with heavy rain and thunderstorms. Flood risk remains a concern in the North. In an assessment carried out late yesterday, Civil Protection identified 167 incidents involving 535 operational staff and 211 land assets. Most of the incidents occurred in the north (106), of which 55 were in the Porto metropolitan area. The Center recorded 35 situations. Most situations involved falling trees (58), road clearing (50) and flooding (29). The hardest hit municipalities were Viana do Castelo, Gondomar and Ovar. Until the end of today, 16 sub-regions are under an orange Civil Protection warning, with particular attention being paid to the north, centre, Lisbon and Tagus Valley.
