Gynecological, obstetric and pediatric emergency departments are closing again in Leiria due to a shortage of doctors.

The gynecological/obstetric emergency department at the Leiria Hospital Center (CHL) is closed until Monday, while the pediatric emergency department will be closed for 24 hours from Sunday due to a shortage of doctors, the medical unit announced.

“We would like to inform you that the Gynecological/Obstetric Emergency Department is closed from 09:00 Thursday, November 9 until 09:00 Monday, November 13 due to a shortage of medical staff,” he told CHL in a post on the CHL website. social network Facebook.

Pregnant women or consumers with urgent gynecological problems were advised by CHL to contact the SNS 24 line (808242424), which “can provide all specialist support and referral to the most appropriate health facility.”

“In urgent situations, users can go to the maternity hospital of Dr. Bissaia Barreto or the maternity hospital of Dr. Daniel de Matos,” both located in Coimbra, CHL explained.

According to CHL, despite announced restrictions and the need to adapt its response capacity in the emergency gynecology/obstetrics and obstetrics department between Thursday and 9am Monday, “all care activities are still guaranteed and planned, meaning monitoring and the care provided to pregnant women and gynecology consumers through external consultations will not be affected by this contingency, while maintaining responsiveness in these areas.”

“The restrictions considered will only affect the functioning of the emergency gynecology/obstetrics department and the maternity ward,” CHL explained.

On the same social media platform, CHL announced that the pediatric emergency department “is closed from 09:00 Sunday 12 November until 09:00 Monday 13 November due to a shortage of medical staff.”

CHL advises contacting the SNS 24 line, and in emergency situations people can contact the Pediatric Hospital of Coimbra.

Closures of these two emergency services have already occurred this month: between the 2nd and 6th for gynecological/obstetric emergencies and between the 5th and 6th for pediatric emergencies. In both situations, the KHL’s justification was a shortage of doctors.

More than 30 hospitals from the north to the south of the country are facing difficulties and temporary closure of services due to the difficulties that administrators are having to rotate doctors.

We are talking about the refusal of more than 2,500 doctors to work overtime more than 150 hours a year, which they are required to do.

The crisis has already forced National Health Service chief executive Fernando Araujo to admit that November could be dramatic if the government and medical unions fail to reach an understanding.
