Radar malfunction caught 200 drivers by surprise

A technical glitch in the new radar system wrongfully recorded 200 vehicles speeding, whose tickets are still being archived. The malfunction occurred on the instant speed control model (PolCam brand, SmartEye ST-1 model) and has already been fixed.

The radars in question are part of a batch of 37 units that entered service in September. One of the faults was found in the EN 234 standard in Nelas, when the device “caught” trucks at a speed of 193 km/h, a speed that is impossible to achieve. These reading errors affected 200 vehicles, whose tickets, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (ANSR), which generates the SINCRO radar system, correspond to 0.2% of the 112,744 tickets recorded in September. Faced with CMHowever, ANSR does not say how many radars have failed or where they are installed. Regarding system reliability, he states that “the manufacturer and installer have stated that the system is reliable and operates correctly.”
