The President of the Municipal Assembly of Porto, Sebastian Fejo de Azevedo, accepted this Monday the request for the resignation of the former president of this municipal body, Miguel Pereira Leite.
The information was provided this Monday by the President of the Municipal Assembly of Porto, Sebastian Feio de Azevedo, who accepted the request and as a result appointed Paulo Jorge López Teixeira from the independent movement “Aki Ha Porto” as his replacement.
In a request to which Luza had access, Miguel Pereira Leite justifies his resignation by the lack of “conditions to ensure a regular presence” in the municipal body that he presided over for the last two terms at the table of the Municipal Assembly.
“I currently do not have the conditions that allow me to ensure regular attendance at the sessions of the Municipal Assembly,” he states, adding that the resignation has “immediate consequences.”
In response to the request, the mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, emphasized the attitude and how Miguel Pereira Leite carried out his role.
“Just because someone got the most votes doesn’t guarantee that spot. It would be bad for me if I did not thank him, which I think the whole city repays him for the elegance with which he carried out his tasks,” he emphasized.
The absence of Miguel Pereira Leite has already been questioned by Socialist Party deputies.
On October 28, Jornal de Notícias reported that Miguel Pereira Leite “only attended the inauguration after the 2021 local elections” and has since asked to be replaced.
Miguel Pereira Leite did not reapply for the position of President of the Municipal Assembly after the independent movement and the PSD signed a governance agreement, with the candidacy of Sebastian Fejo de Azevedo of the PSD supported by the independent movement of Rui Moreira.
