The Spanish right does not accept the amnesty agreement reached between the PSOE and Catalan independence activists in exchange for investment by Pedro Sánchez. Following the street demonstrations, Vox and the PP are now taking legal and legislative action to try to block the measure.
On Tuesday, Vox filed a formal complaint with the Supreme Court against Sánchez, Catalan independence leader Carles Puigdemont, the PSOE and Junts for malfeasance, covering up crimes, usurping the functions of the judiciary and negotiations prohibited to public officials. Santiago Abascal’s party is also calling for a preemptive suspension of the Sánchez inaugural debates scheduled for this Wednesday and Thursday to “avoid the full execution of the alleged crimes.”
On Tuesday, the PP used its majority in the Senate to approve a reform that aims to prevent the amnesty law from being explicitly approved in that chamber, forcing it to be debated for two months instead of the 20 days allowed for in the emergency approval process. PSOE says it will appeal to the Constitutional Court.
