The General Assembly of the National Union of Civil Aviation Pilots (SNPVAC) this Thursday rejected the TAP proposal, reaffirming its intention to hold a five-day strike until January 31, a union source told Lusa.
Thus, the proposal of the company’s management was rejected by 615 votes against, six in favor and one abstention, leaving the possibility of holding a five-day strike until January 31, as decided at the last meeting of SNPVAC.
It should be recalled that this union led the strike of TAP crew members on 8 and 9 December, which resulted in the airline canceling 360 flights earlier, and the total damage is estimated at eight million euros.
TAP management and SNPVAC negotiated in accordance with the demands presented by the union.
The company intends, among other things, to increase the number of hours of work of these specialists.
TAP’s Financial Administrator (CFO) Gonzalo Pires ensured that “all TAP flight attendants can earn more than they earned in 2019” but they must “work harder” to do so.
In an interview with Lusa about the company’s November renegotiation that prompted the call for a strike earlier this month, Gonzalo Pires said TAP’s proposal was based on productivity gains.
“Given the current scenario of ongoing negotiations, [do sindicato] asked the Board to schedule an emergency general meeting as soon as possible, committing to forward the TAP proposal to the Board 48 hours prior to said meeting so that it can be communicated to all members in time to allow everyone to review the document in advance,” SNPVAC informed in a statement sent to employees to inform about the call to this general meeting.
TAP executive president Christine Urmier-Widener told reporters on December 19 that the talks were moving in the right direction and that she believed more strikes could be avoided.
“While we do not share the enthusiasm of the current CEO [presidente executiva]“The truth is that the meetings were held on the basis of dialogue, with normal successes and failures of these negotiations,” the union said.
The emergency general meeting was intended to provide clarification on the TAP proposal and ongoing negotiations “so that members – sovereign in their decisions – can make informed and good faith decisions,” the union said.
