This Thursday, PSP was forced to kill a large dog that threatened the safety of train passengers in the Parc des Nations in Lisbon. A 71-year-old man was arrested for committing a crime against physical integrity using an animal.
The police department reported that there was a citizen on the train who needed medical attention because he was not feeling well.
“The police came out to the platform where they saw a man prostrate on the ground, apparently drunk, accompanied by a police inspector who was assisting him, holding his large dog on a leash, the latter being somewhat restless and without a muzzle. In the situation of the citizen, emergency medical assistance was called,” the PSP said in a statement.
According to a police officer, the elderly man often walked with the animal without a muzzle and incited it to attack passengers. When authorities approached the man, he uttered insulting words and aggressively encouraged the dog to attack police.
“Due to the aggressiveness of the dog, its size and the fact that it ran towards the police, endangering the physical integrity of them and third parties, effective firearms were used, resulting in injuries and, unfortunately, the death of canidae, after why the suspect was ordered to be arrested,” the source confirms.
The suspect had to be taken to a San Jose hospital and given a notice to appear at the Lisbon local misdemeanor court.
