The national table of the Left Bloc has determined the election calendar today

The National Council of the BU will meet this Sunday to discuss the political crisis and set the calendar for the expected 2024 legislative elections, after the bloc’s coordinator had already committed to the first candidates approved in December.

The meeting of this highest body between congresses comes in the midst of a political crisis, after Prime Minister António Costa, who is being investigated by the Ministry of State (MP) in the Supreme Court, resigned and the President of the Republic declared the elections to be legislative elections, postponed on March 10 next year.

As usual, at the end of the meeting of the National Council of the BU, which takes place behind closed doors during the day, the leader of the bloc, Mariana Mortagua, will give a press conference at which she will present the main conclusions.

Last week, after Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced his intention to dissolve parliament, Mariana Mortagua briefed reporters on Sunday’s meeting of the National Council.

“We have scheduled a meeting of the National Council for November 19. The political situation will be discussed at it and the BE calendar for the next elections will be determined,” he said.

The first BE names for this election will be confirmed in December, according to the BE coordinator, who pointed to the presentation of the electoral program to the country in January “with alternatives of what matters and what matters to people’s lives.”

At this press conference, Mortagua refused to answer questions about the possibility of a new invention or about candidates for the post of leadership of the PS, arguing that “the concern of the Left Bloc is to find solutions for the country” in areas where different people live, problems such as health , education, housing or wages.
