CMTV, broadcast only on Channel 8 of all cable platforms, yesterday had a larger audience than the universal TVI, broadcasting on a free-to-air signal.
For the first time in the history of Portuguese television, a cable channel, in this case CMTV, beats the universal TVI.
The historic result occurred in the average audience throughout yesterday. CMTV received a share of 9.7% versus TVI’s 9.5%.
Television Correio da Manhã averaged 223 thousand viewers every minute of the day, compared to TVI’s 219 thousand viewers.
Main rivals CMTV together received just 4.3% of the shares, and CNN just 1.9%, even though it was ahead of SIC Notícias with 1.8% and RTP3 with 0.6%.
CMTV has been the national news leader for 19 consecutive months.
It airs on Channel 8 on all cable platforms, but not yet on DTT.
GFK is solely responsible for the results shown.
