The city council of Vila Nova de Gaia and its president, Eduardo Vitor Rodriguez, have filed a criminal case against the municipality’s former Social Democratic leader, Luis Filipe Menezes, for crimes of insult and libel.
The filing of a criminal complaint with the Department of Investigation and Criminal Affairs (DIAP) of Vila Nova de Gaia, in the district of Porto, was approved this Monday, with the abstention of the PSD, in a public meeting of the municipal executive.
The complaint is based on the fact that the former leader of the SDP, in a post on the social network Facebook, accused the current mayor, elected by the PS, of interfering in the land licensing process.
At the beginning of October, in this publication, Luis Filipe Menezes also accused Eduardo Vitor Rodriguez of being the “mastermind” of “criminal somersaults”, such as changing technical conclusions, with the aim of harming him, and announced that he had referred the case to the authorities.
The ministry subsequently confirmed that it had opened an investigation into a complaint filed by the former chamber president, Gaia Luis, against the current head of the municipality.
When questioned by Lusa, the Attorney General’s Office confirmed receipt of the complaint, which “led to an investigation.”
