Five people, including three children, were stabbed in Parnell Square in Dublin city center on Thursday. According to Reuters, the attack took place near the school.
A five-year-old girl was given emergency treatment after suffering serious injuries. A woman, aged in her 30s, also suffered serious injuries, while two other children, a five-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries. The boy has already been discharged from the hospital.
A man in his 40s, who was also being treated for serious injuries, was detained by police, who said they were not looking for other suspects, Reuters reported. ABOUT Irish Times reported that the injuries to the man detained by authorities were self-inflicted.
According to Reuters, the incident sparked clashes between riot police and a group of anti-immigrant protesters who arrived at the scene shortly after the attack. A police car and a double-decker bus were set on fire, and windows at a Holiday Inn and McDonalds restaurant nearby were smashed.
