Livre has announced that it will abstain from voting on the 2024 state budget. Rui Tavares justifies his vote after the government introduced measures such as the Emergency Housing Fund as well as the national rail pass.
“This vote says a very simple thing: we need to recognize achievements and we need to recognize victories when we have them, this is what we have done in recent years, and we are doing the same thing in this 2024, with measures which we want to implement before the elections,” he emphasized.
The MP admits that he thought about voting against it, and this was reported to the government. However, approval of the two measures allowed the party to move to abstention voting.
Among more than a hundred amendment proposals submitted, Livre received the green light to extend the national railway subscription for interregional, city and intercity trains at a cost of 49 euros, as well as to create an emergency housing fund. .
Livre also endorsed the creation of a digital database of government properties next year, or even an exhaustive government survey of empty government buildings that could be converted into student accommodation.
The creation of a plan to train civil registry offices and consular officers on gender and name change procedures, the creation of an organic unit for the promotion of the Miranda language with the allocation of 200 thousand euros, the government’s approval of legislation next year, the creation of an ethics and support commission, and the updating of voter lists are other examples of approved measures.
Along the way, there were measures such as assistance with the purchase of a first home for permanent residence or the creation of government agencies, one of which deals with hydrogen, the other with the fight against corruption, fraud and economic and financial crime.
Parliament today completes the discussion of the State Budget for 2024, which guaranteed approval by the absolute majority of the executive authorities.
