The program, “with an annual cost of €33 million,” aims to “make people with disabilities less dependent on institutionalization by supporting their integration into society, school and work,” the statement said.
The minimum age to access the service is 14 years old, and MAVI “ensures that, through the cooperation of a personal assistant, recipients can carry out activities that they would not be able to do on their own, such as hygiene, personal care, nutrition, travel, frequency of training or training systems. active job search and labor integration, access to culture, recreation and sports and other forms of life in society.”
According to the report, the costs of housing work, rent and transportation will also be covered.
A personal assistant “recognizes the right to a contract of employment from the outset of the process, with access to training in the context of work”, and in the case of a school-aged person with a disability, the assistant can “provide support directly at school”.
The decree establishing the conditions for the creation, implementation, organization and operation of this new social response was published this Thursday in the Diário da República.
The program will be implemented by “independent life support centers (CAVIs), which are beneficiaries and have a legal responsibility to promote the availability of personal support services for people with disabilities or disabilities,” according to the resolution, which is now in force and effective. will go into effect Friday and will “be effective January 1, 2024.”
