This Thursday, the PCP questioned the Home Secretary about the “pay disparity between police officers”, asking why the pay allowances for PSP and GNR are not also being reviewed, as happened with PJ.
In a question addressed to José Luis Carneiro through the Assembly of the Republic, PCP deputy Alma Rivera states that since the new addition to the mission of the Judicial Police (PJ) was approved by the Council of Ministers on November 29, “they have several news that a point has emerged for career salary increases PJ, which can be around 700 euros per month due to the mission allowance.”
“For PCPs, salary increases are a must. What cannot happen is to maintain police forces on unimaginable salary conditions, as happens with the National Republican Guard (GNR) or the Public Security Police (PSP),” argues the PCP.
The party says the current situation has “caused outrage among PSP and GNR professionals who have long been demanding a review of the values of the relevant remuneration premiums, especially the risk premium, which is significantly lower than the stated value.”
“The parliamentary group of the PKP emphasizes that it insisted on the need to increase the remuneration of specialists from law enforcement agencies and services,” it says.
In this context, the party asks José Luis Carneiro “why there is such a huge disparity between PSP and GNR compared to PJ in terms of additives whose purpose is to compensate for factors of the same nature.”
“Why aren’t the remuneration allowances for PSP and GNR specialists also revised?” they also ask.
On Wednesday, the PSP trade unions and the GNR associations decided to hold several demonstrations, starting today, in Porto, where the Council of Ministers was meeting, demanding an identical allowance allocated to PJ members.
Unions and associations of these security forces criticize what they see as unequal treatment and differences in income compared to the PS.
The matter is that last week the government approved the payment of a travel allowance for PJ’s career, which in some cases could represent an increase of almost 700 euros per month.
