Former Prime Minister José Sócrates criticized the silence of candidates for the post of Secretary General of the Socialist Party (PS) regarding the wiretapping of former Infrastructure Minister João Galamba in an opinion piece published this Monday in the magazine News Diary.
“The other day the PS learned that the minister had been under surveillance for four years and there was no reaction. Everything was fine,” complained Jose Socrates.
Hearings of the former infrastructure minister began in 2019, but have not taken place continuously. We are talking about suspicions regarding the Sines data center business. Given this circumstance, José Socrates condemned the lack of response from the candidates for the post of PS leader Pedro Nuno Santos and José Luis Carneiro.
“They were colleagues of the minister. They are friends of the minister. However, none of them felt obliged to speak on this topic. The responsibilities of the partnership no longer seem to bind anyone in this party,” he said.
The former prime minister detailed his criticism of José Luis Carneiro, the interior minister under the previous government.
“I understand that you were deeply dissatisfied cartoon about police racism. However, the same indignation did not break his spirit when he was informed that his former colleague had been interrogated by crime bosses for four years,” said José Socrates.
Direct elections to the PS will be held on December 15 and 16 with the participation of a third candidate, Daniel Adrian.
