Montenegro criticizes PS for “again” wanting to “influence the course of justice”

PSD President Luis Montenegro accused the PS this Monday of seeking to “once again influence the course of justice” due to the Prime Minister’s statements about the judicial investigation that led to his dismissal.

“I especially regret that the PS is once again trying to influence the course of justice, even going against a principle that has already been repeatedly stated,” criticized the leader of the Social Democrats in statements on the sidelines of a visit to the Airport from Beja.

But the SDP is “focused” not on the past, but on the future, Montenegro said: “Today we are not looking at what happened on November 7. Today we are looking at what will happen on March 10,” the date of the legislative elections.

During a trip to Alentejo airport, at the start of the Sentir Portugal route through the Beja region, which will last until Wednesday, Luís Montenegro was questioned by journalists about the statements made by Prime Minister António Costa this Monday. – Fair on CNN/Portugal.

In statements at the official residence of São Bento, answering questions about his participation in the judicial investigation that led to his dismissal as prime minister on November 7, António Costa believed that justice should reflect on the publicity of the actions. under investigation still does not have sufficient credibility.
Regarding his personal situation regarding the investigation in which he is involved and which is taking place in the Supreme Court, António Costa said that he has “an absolutely clear conscience.”

In his statements, the prime minister also referred to the statement of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) on this case. Costa said that the Attorney General of the Republic, Lucília Gago, “grafted the last paragraph in which she officially announced to Portugal, to the whole world, to the Portuguese, that a case had been opened against her.”

According to the PSD president, on March 10, when legislative elections are held, “political changes will take place” in the country and his party will “open a new cycle,” which is what it is “concentrating on.”

“The “crocodiles’ tears” of Dr. António Costa, Dr. Pedro Nuno Santos, Dr. José Luis Carneiro do not interfere with the path of the PSD,” he countered.

When asked what he would do if a statement of the same content were made if he were prime minister, the leader of the Social Democrats replied that “he would not allow this statement to be made public, because naturally he would not do anything that could motivate that.”

“But this is the existential problem of Dr. Antonio Costa, which I am not going to interfere with,” he added simply.
