Until June, the total number of hours watched for “Rabo de Peixe” was 31.5 million.

Augusto Fraga’s Portuguese series Rabo de Peixe has racked up 31.5 million hours watched worldwide on streaming platform Netflix, according to viewing figures for the first half of this year released Tuesday by North American broadcaster American.

For the first time, the streaming platform has unveiled a global report with some total audience data for the first half of 2023 to gauge viewer sentiment towards its available catalog and address criticism over a lack of transparency and information, according to a Netflix co-creator. administrator Ted Sarandos at a press conference.

“Over time, we have strived to be more transparent about what people watch on Netflix. (…) The best indicator for understanding the relationship between viewers and the films shown is the number of hours,” he emphasized.

The published list represents more than 18 thousand works shown on Netflix, which had at least more than 50 thousand hours of streaming in the first half of this year. Also added information about the premiere date and whether the exhibition was global.

In total, these 18,000-plus titles listed accounted for nearly 100 billion hours of viewing in the first half of the year.

The Portuguese series Rabo de Peixe, produced for Netflix and premiering in May, is among the 500 most watched films in the world. Topping the list is the first season of Sean’s series O Agent da Noite. Ryan with 812.1 million hours watched from January to June.

“It’s more information than they need, but I think it helps create a better environment for the unions, for us, for the producers, for the writers and for the media,” he said.

Since 2021, Netflix, one of the world’s largest online viewing platforms, has been publishing consumption data with weekly tables of the most viewed titles or lists of the most popular titles, but it is only now disclosing information about titles licensed for “streaming” and in-house productions.

Rabo de Peixe, which is guaranteed a second season, is a film produced by Ukbar Filmes for Netflix, based on an idea by Augusto Fraga, who directed it with Patricia Sequeira.

In the first weeks of airing, the Portuguese series was among the world’s top ten most watched series in languages other than English.

This is the second Portuguese fantasy series created for Netflix, after Pedro Lopez’s Gloria, directed by Thiago Guedes, produced by SPI, which premiered in November 2021.

According to Netflix’s list of 18,000 TV shows and movies, “Gloria” was watched 1.6 million hours between January and June of this year.

According to Netflix, in the first half of this year, 30% of total hours spent were in non-English language productions.

Also noteworthy is Till Life Do Us Part, directed by Manuel Purez, which premiered its first season in February 2022 and racked up 400,000 hours of streaming this year through June.

The streaming service of the North American company Netflix has been available in Portugal since October 2015.

It currently has 247 million paying subscribers to access the service and is present in more than 190 countries.
