The National Council of IL today approved the lists of candidates for deputies

The names that IL will present in the early legislative elections on March 10 next year will be approved this Saturday by the party’s National Council, which meets in Leiria.

Also on the agenda of national councilors is a decision on a new date for the non-elected congress, which was scheduled for earlier this month but was postponed due to the political crisis, according to information provided to Lusa by a party source. . .

As has happened in recent meetings of this body, IL President Rui Rocha’s initial speech will be open to the media, with the rest of the discussion taking place behind closed doors.

The Liberals, who changed leaders at the beginning of the year following the departure of João Cotrim Figueiredo, will confirm their names on the lists with which they will compete in the early legislative elections on March 10, 2024.

Meeting at a hotel in Leiria during the day this Saturday, the National Council of IL will discuss and debate the necessary changes to the rules of the convention, which will be legislative rather than electoral in nature, and will also assess the party’s budget for next year.

On November 12, when it was decided to postpone this important meeting, the party said that “there must be courage in the political decision to force the IL to focus on what matters most, which is removing the PS from governing.”

Pedro Ferreira, vice-president of the National Council, explained that the congress, whose agenda included changes to the charter and political program, “will have a lot to talk about internally” and what is needed “at the moment” is to talk to the Portuguese “

The leader clarified that despite this postponement, new global projects to amend the bylaws cannot be introduced, and therefore, when the congress takes place, two projects that already exist and are known to the members will be discussed and voted on.
