The PNP detained a man and a woman in Malveira, Mafra, after a chase in which they crashed into a security guard’s car and made several dangerous maneuvers, and repeated the crime of stealing a car after being released.
The incident occurred on Friday when the Mafra territorial detachment arrested a 46-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man for vehicle theft and dangerous driving, gardai said in a statement on Saturday.
“Following a spot check by gardaí, the driver disobeyed a stop sign, collided with a police vehicle, and then began to flee. During the approximately 15-kilometer (15-kilometer) escape, the driver failed to comply with several traffic rules, creating an immediate danger to other road users,” the document states.
After intercepting the vehicle, GNR confirmed it was a stolen vehicle and made arrests.
The detainees were recognized as accused, to whom coercive measures were applied in the form of an identity card and period of residence, and then released.
“After being released, the individuals were again arrested in flagrante delicto for the theft of a vehicle,” the statement said.
The detainees currently remain in the PPR institutions and will be present at the Amadora Judicial Court for the application of the coercive measure.
The operation was reinforced by soldiers of the Torres Vedras Territorial Unit and the Torres Vedras Road Unit.
