Trophy winners Porto ended their participation in the 2023/24 Football League Cup this Saturday with a 2-1 victory over II League side Leixões in the third and final round of Group D.
Having no chance of reaching the final four, given the defeat to Estoril Praia (3-1), the Dragons scored goals thanks to Francisco Conceicao (seven minutes) and Taremi (85, from the penalty spot), Fabinho (14, with penalties) are still tied with Leixonenses, who were eventually reduced to 10 players due to the exclusion of Wakaso at 41.
Porto’s players finished Group D in second place with three points, behind the Estorilistas with six and ahead of Leixões, third and last, with no points.
The League Cup Final Four will take place in Leiria from 23 to 27 January. In the semi-finals, Sporting will face Sporting de Braga and Benfica will face Estoril Praia.
