Moroccan navy rescues 57 sub-Saharan migrants

A Moroccan Navy patrol ship this Sunday rescued 57 sub-Saharan emigrants who were traveling aboard a small boat in the Atlantic Ocean and intended to reach the Canary Islands.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces, the ship was intercepted southwest of the city of Dakhla, in Western Sahara, about 70 kilometers from the coast.

Among the migrants were four women in a “very severe” state of fatigue, the note said.

According to the same source, those rescued were provided with medical assistance and handed over to the Moroccan police at the port of Dakhla.

The day before, a military unit intercepted another ship carrying 56 sub-Saharan migrants in the Atlantic, about 67 kilometers from the coast.
