The President of the Republic unveiled a government diploma defining the conditions for the establishment of an interpretive center dated April 25, 1974, which will be installed in Terreiro do Paço in Lisbon, as announced this Thursday.
In a note posted on the Internet portal of the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announces the publication of a diploma for the creation of “an interpretive center by April 25 and the development of a project for the restoration of military equipment of the North.”
The diploma was approved by the Council of Ministers on the 7th, along with a resolution authorizing the costs of creating this center.
“Given the intention of the 25th of April Association to create an Interpretive Center by the 25th of April, and Terreiro do Paço being an important stage for the events of that day and representing one of the most visited places in Lisbon, it is only justifiable that this could be installed there, honoring his story and projecting his fame,” the then-chief said in a statement.
Speaking to Lusa, the president of the 25 April association, Colonel Vasco Lourenço, said that this was a proposal submitted by the association to the national commission for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution.
The goal is for the site to be interpretive and not “just a museum,” covering “the backstory: why April 25 happened, how it happened, why it happened.”
“This is a very ambitious project that we hope to put into practice,” said Vasco Lourenço, expressing his belief that the space “will become one of the most visited places in Portugal.”
According to an official note from the Belem Palace, the head of state also unveiled a government diploma establishing the process for creating commemorative medals commemorating achievements or dates of relevant national interest.
