Are you going to celebrate the New Year in Lisbon? Please review distribution restrictions and PSP instructions.

The Lisbon Public Security Police (PSP) will increase security measures and facilitate a safe New Year’s celebration in Praça do Comércio.

The day will be marked by traffic restrictions on several arteries and the creation of checkpoints to prevent people from accessing the Praça de Comércio, where the largest celebrations will take place.

The PSP statement said that from 16:00 on December 31, 2023, vehicle access to Praça do Comércio will be prohibited, and traffic on adjacent arteries such as:

Avenida 24 de Julu, towards Cais do Sodre; Rua de São Paulo and adjacent arteries; Largo Baran-Quintela and adjacent arteries; Rua do Alecrim and adjacent arteries; Largo do Chiado; Victor Cordona Street and adjacent arteries. Also, all the arteries of Baixa Pombalin are located between Dom Pedro IV Square, Figueira Square and Commercio Square; Cais do Sodre; Largo do Duque de Terceira; Largo do Corpo Santo; Arsenalnaya street; Avenida da Ribeira das Naus; Avenida Infante Casa Enrique, between Plaza Commercio and the viaduct of Avenida Musinho de Albuquerque; Rua da Alphandega; Rua do Cais de Santarem; Largo do Terreiro do Trigo; Rua do Terreiro do Trigo and Rua do Jardim do Tabaco.

In the Parque des Nations, movement will also be prohibited along Avenida da Boa Esperanza, Rua do Bojador and the Altis Arena Rotunda, as well as access to the Alameda dos Oceanos towards the Vasco da Gama shopping center from 11:20 pm to 11:20 pm. 1:00 am.

Road traffic will open from 5 am on January 1.

Entrance to the event is via the following streets:

Avenida Ribeira das Naus/Largo de Corpo Santo; Rua do Arsenal/Praça do Municipio; Rua Aurea/Ouro and Rua de Sant Julian; Rua Augusta and Rua de Sant Julian; Rua da Prata and Rua de Sant Julian; Rua dos Fanqueiros and Rua de São Julian; Rua do Comercio and Rua da Madalena; Rua da Alphandega and Rua da Madalena.

PSP leaves several tips, including: come to the holiday early; use public transport; avoid entering crowded places; Avoid transporting baby strollers and high chairs to celebrations so as not to restrict people with limited mobility; do not drink alcohol while driving; When parking on public roads, do not restrict the passage of emergency vehicles and, if PSP intervention is necessary, call 112 or the PSP Lisbon Metropolitan Command.

There are also some items that are considered prohibited, such as: glass bottles; umbrella; helmets; firearms and bladed weapons; laser pointers; selfie sticks; megaphones; benches or chairs; explosives and drugs.
