An 80-year-old man was arrested on New Year’s Eve on suspicion of domestic violence. The man allegedly attacked a 79-year-old woman and threatened to kill her. A report of domestic violence led the patrol to the home of an elderly couple in the parish of the municipality of Vila Flor, Bragança district.
According to the 79-year-old victim, her 80-year-old husband attacked her and threatened her with death. It all happened during a marital quarrel.
The elderly man was taken to the GNR dungeons in Vila Flor, where he spent New Year’s Eve. On January 1, a psychological and psychiatric examination was carried out, but the medical report did not indicate the reasons why he could be hospitalized.
He later attended his first court hearing and will await trial as a free man. He was taken to a relative’s house and will be monitored by an electronic bracelet preventing him from approaching the woman within a 150-metre radius.
