ISIS claims responsibility for the attack that killed nearly 100 people in Iran

ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack near a cemetery in Kerman, Iran, where a ceremony was being held in honor of General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a US drone attack in 2020. Information provided by Reuters.

The twin blasts killed 84 people and injured 284, some seriously, officials said, meaning the overall death toll could rise.

In a statement released through the Telegram social media channels, ISIS said two of its members “went to a large gathering” of people near Soleimani’s grave in Kerman and “detonated their explosive belts.”

Iran declared a day of national mourning this Thursday.
