The losing candidate for leadership of the Socialist Party spoke this Saturday at the Socialist Congress and expressed his readiness to work with Pedro Nuno Santos, the winner of the PS elections.
“Pedro Nuno Santos can count on my services to take charge,” he said.
“The PS is a great party of commitment to progress, equality and freedom, the human right to the free development of one’s personality, social justice, equality of opportunity, protection of culture, respect for differences,” he listed.
José Luis Carneiro states that the Socialist Party has always contributed “to raising the prestige of Portugal in the world.” “This is a party that maintains its matrix as a popular party that values work and is able to dialogue with all sectors of Portuguese society, which is why we are the party of stability.”
He adds that it is important for the Portuguese to mobilize and “fight extremism.”
“We must all live up to our commitments to the public budget, a budget that increases pensions, social benefits, has a proactive youth policy, promotes public investment and has the right priorities in health, housing, education, transport and mobility. “, he says. He adds, declaring that contrary to “what straight people say”, the public budget also promotes private investment and skilled employment and that “Portugal should continue to be among the countries that encourage the largest share of foreign investment.”
According to José Luis Carneiro, the PS is “carrying out a major reform” and the party has managed to “create new local health facilities, conclude agreements on housing, income support, continue development and invest in education and culture.” But he says there is a need to move forward on “regionalization reforms, justice reforms and training more doctors.”
“We are a great party, supportive and fraternal, humanistic and open to the world. We came together to serve Portugal,” he says. He also says that Pedro Nuno Santos can count on everyone to “mobilize, work and win the elections.”
