The President of the Liberal Initiative (IL), Rui Rocha, said this Saturday that after the March 10 elections, the party is ready to “participate in decisions that will transform the country,” stressing that “a minority government is a constitutional government.”
Speaking to reporters during a visit to the Braga market, Rui Rocha stressed that the availability of IL depends on whether Chega is excluded from any decision.
“Democracy is made up of various decisions and hence a minority government is a possible constitutional government and can have such a reformative vision and therefore we will be here to help, contribute and participate in the decisions that will transform the country,” he said. .
Rui Rocha said IL maintains “cordial relations” with the PSD, adding that it is necessary to wait for the election results to determine governing scenarios.
“We have two fundamental goals: to change the government, but also to change the country. The Liberal Initiative is a responsible party, and within that goal of changing government and changing the country, one must come with the other, we will know how to take on our responsibilities, and the day after the election we will be here to negotiate the future.” , he added.
As for Chega, Rui Rocha said that there is no mutual understanding.
“Decisions that do not transform the country for us are undesirable, and therefore we will certainly find ourselves on the sidelines from them,” he emphasized.
The liberal leader also criticized António Costa, accusing him of delivering a speech at the opening of the PS congress that was “completely divorced from the reality” of the country.
“When we get down to earth, when we talk to people, when we see their difficulties, that’s the truth of the country and that’s the reality of the country,” he said, referring to the cost of living, low wages and young people forced to emigrate.
“It is this reality that we want to change from March 10, with economic growth, higher wages, structural health care reform that will allow people to see a doctor, to have operations when they need it, and not after a year or two. years of waiting, often in suffering conditions,” he said.
Regarding the dismissal of António Costa, Rui Rocha said that the Prime Minister did not have any conditions to continue working, given cases such as suspicions of influence peddling by “his best friend”, 75 thousand euros found in his boss’s office, and a “specific law” that Minister João Galamba is “accused” of creating in favor of certain businesses.
“How can someone continue to hold office?” – he asked.
In another context, Rui Rocha downplayed the recent departure of some members amid criticism of the party leadership’s alleged “centralism”.
“I’m not talking about speeches divorced from reality, no matter who they are,” he said, guaranteeing that “with each exit, more and more liberals will enter the IL.”
