Former minister Eduardo Cabrita found it strange this Saturday that, “despite the fact that the courts dissolved the government” two months ago, he still did not listen to the prime minister, and attacked the PSD.
“While there is chaos on the right, between different political forces within the PSD, with a weakened PSD dependent on the far right, the PS is the only force that guarantees trust, stability and economic development,” he said.
Eduardo Cabrita, former interior minister, spoke to reporters at the entrance to the PS National Congress, which takes place from Friday at the Lisbon International Fair (FIL) and ends on Sunday.
Answering the question whether justice is part of political activity, Eduardo Cabrita found it “strange that, having dissolved the government two months ago, he has not yet had time to listen to António Costa.”
“Justice is not a taboo subject, it is like education, health, housing or safety – an area where we have such good results that I am proud of. But politics should not discuss legal matters, and justice should not discuss legislative processes,” he warned, indirectly alluding to the so-called Operation Influential.
On a strictly political level, the Socialist leader said that at this congress, FIL PS “concentrates on what matters most, namely defeating the right, proving that only this party is the force that guarantees stability and growth.”
“We are here because the president of the republic called elections. This is something that will also be appreciated and carefully studied by the Portuguese. The Portuguese also appreciate the President of the Republic for the way he decided to call the elections,” he emphasized. .
Asked if he understood that there was a different kind of justice for the PS, Eduardo Cabrita rejected this thesis and, in this context, discounted the case related to the house built by the Social Democratic President Luis Montenegro in Espinho.
“What I say about justice applies to everyone. I want Luis Montenegro to lose the legislative elections because he is politically incompetent and unprepared, not because he has any process to participate in,” he said.
Eduardo Cabrita stressed that he does not make recommendations to the courts, saying that he has time, and highlighted the recent decision of the Court of Auditors on the privatization of ANA (Portugal Airports).
“Ten years later, the court said that the SDP, when it was in government, did not protect the public interest in the way it privatized the ANA. Moreover – this is already a political question – in a company transformed into a private monopoly, “he appointed a former minister,” he said, referring to José Luis Arnaut.
