The coalition agreement between PSD, CDS-PP and PPM was signed today in Porto

The SDS, CDS-PP and PPM will sign the Democratic Alliance coalition agreement this Sunday in a ceremony at the Porto customs office, which will also be attended by a representative of the independent parties that are to join the joint legislative lists.

The text of the agreement was published on Saturday, highlighting the Democratic Alliance’s (AD) “government experience” in the past, “added value not found in other political sectors” and warning of the “closeness of the previous and current leadership of the PS with radical left parties.”

The text reiterates that this coalition agreement between the three parties will include legislative elections on March 10 and European elections on June 9, an alliance “with the aim of offering Portugal the necessary political changes and an ambitious government, a reformist government.” , stable moderate and majority.”

The agreement, which will be signed by the presidents of PSD Luisa Montenegro, PSD-NP Nuno Melo and PRM Gonçalo da Camara Pereira, lists as AD’s priorities achieving high levels of growth, increasing incomes and “rescuing and restoring the welfare state, which is in a state of continued decline.”

Rejection of “extremism or populism at any point on the ideological or partisan spectrum” and governing “with high ethical standards” are other commitments, along with a commitment to “sustainable management” of public finances and “political stability based on open, constructive dialogue.” and the participation of various actors and institutions of society.”

The coalition agreement stipulates that the Democratic Alliance’s electoral program, which promises a “positive” campaign, will have contributions from three parties and independents, and on seats it only says that the legislative and European lists “will be based on an overall weighting of the results received by the three parties in the previous elections, respecting the law of parity and including independent candidates.

On Thursday evening, the national councils of the PSD and SDS-NP unanimously approved the pre-election legislative and European coalition announced between the Social Democrats and Christian Democrats on December 21, reverting to the name Democratic Alliance (the name of the first coalitions was between the two parties in the 1980s years).

On Wednesday it was announced that the PPM will also join this electoral coalition, already approved by the party organs.

In the National Council, Luis Montenegro said that the CDS-PP would have two “clearly eligible” seats on the lists of Lisbon and Porto, a 16th seat in each of these constituencies that could be elected depending on the growth of the electorate, in addition to 10 1st place on the list for Aveiro and 11th for Braga, mandates that he considered possible to secure in the event of a “more comfortable” victory, with 19th place reserved for PPM in the capital.

This is the fourth time that the PSD and CDS-PP will vote together in legislative elections.

The signing of the AD coalition agreement came just hours after the end of the 24th Congress of the PS, which appointed Pedro Nuno Santos as the party’s new secretary general, a position he replaces António Costa, who resigned as prime minister on November 7 after it became known that he was the subject of a judicial investigation launched by the Department of Justice in the Supreme Court as a result of Operation Influencer.

The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, accepted the resignation of the Prime Minister and two days later announced to the country the dissolution of parliament and the appointment of early legislative elections for March 10.
