The Livre will hold its XIII Congress on January 27 and 28 in Porto, a major non-elective meeting aimed at completing the program of early legislative elections on March 10.
According to an official party source, the agenda of the convention calls for the presentation of an electoral program for the legislative elections in early March, which will be discussed and subject to change at the meeting itself through amendments submitted by members and supporters.
All leading candidates in the legislative elections are also scheduled to speak, including Porto’s number one Jorge Pinto and Lisbon’s Rui Tavares.
In December, the party selected through a primary method a list of leaders for the legislative elections, which also included Lisbon municipal deputy Isabel Mendes López as “number two” for Lisbon.
Setubal’s list will again be headed by leader Paulo Muacho, a lawyer, while in Braga “number one” will be Teresa Mota, co-representative of the party, elected at the last major assembly of Livre, held in 2022, in Coimbra.
The Livre uses a basic method to select its representatives for externally elected positions, for which any citizen can register to run or vote, provided that he signs the constitution of that party.
This Monday, the President of the Republic issued a decree dissolving parliament and calling early legislative elections for March 10.
Prime Minister António Costa resigned on November 7 after it became known that he was the subject of a judicial investigation launched by the Ministry of State in the Supreme Court as a result of Operation Influencer.
