Campanhão will have a new area at the eastern end of the train station, which will be renovated and will receive an elevated road to the line connecting all modes of transport, as part of the implementation of high-speed rail in Porto.
“It is necessary to create a new station square (Praça da Estação AV) (…) with ramps to access the new public parking that will be underneath,” with 620 spaces, can be read in the preliminary program of the Campanhão station. , prepared during a public tender for the first section of the high-speed line to which Lusa had access.
This new square, located next to the current Moagem Ceres street, “should be provided with connections to other modes of transport, connections to the Campania Intermodal Terminal (TIC) and the municipal road network”, taking into account the Campania Urbanization Plan (PUC), which on Friday morning Catalan architect and urban planner Joan Busquets will represent Porto City Hall.
The introduction of high speed at the Campanhão station “implies an extension to the east of the current borders of the station, as well as the subsequent allocation of the Pinheiro de Campanhão street, which must be restored to ensure its connection with the Rua do Freixo street.” , the passage of which below the line must still be ensured.
Rua Pinheiro de Campanhão will be affected by the “construction of new AV platforms.” [alta velocidade]”, creating “a new street that takes advantage of the infrastructure recently created in the north by the municipality of Porto under the TIC.” [Terminal Intermodal de Campanhã]”, and which “should be developed in the south, connecting to Rua do Freixo.

The new viaduct “will cross the entire station on an east/west axis, connecting the AV station plaza and its multimodal interface (to the east) with the passenger platforms of the future lines I–XI, with a walkway connecting the Campanhão business center, the Douro and Minho terminal area, Porto metro station and STCP terminal,” are described in detail in the documents.
There are currently two pedestrian underpasses (PIPs) in Campagna: in the north (connecting to the TIC, metro station and city bus station) and in the south (railway only). As part of the station rewording, “the southern PIP must be expanded to ensure access to the AV platforms and public road east of the station” and the “northern PIP must be adapted to connect to the AV platforms.”
As for the new platforms added to the current station, they will be 420 meters long and 10 meters wide, but “only need to be covered to a length of 220 meters.”
“The access areas to the PIP Sul and the AV passenger building should be resurfaced” and the station’s current roofs “should be demolished to make way for the new PSP” and new roofs, and should also be “modular in design to facilitate possible rooftop expansion territory in the future up to PIP Norte”, which for now will remain uncovered.
The northern pedestrian crossing, recently opened and providing access to the Campania intermodal terminal, “should be adapted to provide access to the AV platforms”, which should provide access “by normal stairs”, as well as install a lift.
The site will also have a police station, offices and commercial premises.
The trains will arrive in Campanhão via a new road-rail bridge that will be built as part of the high-speed railway project, a public tender for the Porto Oian section was announced last week.
The high-speed line should connect Porto and Lisbon in approximately one hour and 15 minutes, with possible stops in Gaya, Aveiro, Coimbra and Leiria.
